I ran my first and only marathon over twelve years ago, right after my daughter was born, to support the American Cancer Society. This November I plan to return to New York to raise money for Team Mission, a nonprofit organization that supports cancer survivors between the ages of 12-39. I will be running on behalf of Morgan and Maya. I hope you take a moment to read their stories below. With one of my girls going to Morgan's high school next year, and another who's a ten year old gymnast, I'm honored to support a local mission that continues to grow on a national level. From the age of 5 I had been competing in gymnastics. So, at the age of 9 when my knee was in pain and my leg was a little swollen, I just assumed it was an insignificant injury that I had gotten while doing gymnastics. At a certain point, my leg was causing me too much pain to just ignore. So my parents brought me to the doctor who diagnosed me with osteosarcoma. Click here for more on Maya's story |
